Don’t worry…BEE happy!

Friday, January 30th, 2009

ll-564s.jpg I forgot to mention that I got “runner up” or second place in the Spelling Bee. It was exciting and if I keep on working hard I could win next year :) I missed the word “recommend”-adding another “c”-BUT- this weekend the spelling bee champion (Brooke Winters/8th grade) and I are going to the State Spelling Bee. I don’t really have to worry about performing unless Brooke faints or gets sick before we’re up (I hope she doesn’t do either!!)  So, atleast I’m not so nervous for ME as I am for someone else…do you get nervous when your friends are trying out for something they really want?! I always get nervous for Sierra when she auditions for plays:) Hope your weekend will BEE happy! Valentina

Are you a list maker? Do you like to check things off your list that you’ve accomplished? Or, do you just fly by the seat of your pants and do whatever you need to do? This list was found after a few eleven year olds were planning a party :) We hope that they checked out The Cupcakes Club when they were on the computer!

girl-reading-book.jpg My social studies and reading grades have been slowly going downhill….not a good thing…but it’s hard for me to concentrate when I’m reading. Did you know that some kids learn better if they HEAR the lesson rather than read the lesson? Like, OMG!, I am AMAZING at knowing all the words to songs on the radio or my iPod so it totally makes sense. Anyways- I am now going to be going to a study group at school where we LISTEN to our Social Studies assignment, then we talk about it. I’m kind of excited to see how it will be AND I know that another guy in my class goes, too. Do you know what his name is? Caribou Caldwell…and he is just as cool as his name! Tell  you more L8R~Ashley

Colorful Hearts

gt076_crayheart01_xl.jpg

Hanging hearts are easy to make from waxed paper and crayons. In return, sunbeams will color your room with cheer.                                                                                                              Make lots of crayon shavings with a pencil sharpener. Place shavings on a piece of wax paper. Either place another piece of wax paper on top or fold over the edge to cover all of the shavings. Iron on the lowest setting for about 1 second. You can go always go longer after checking to see if the shavings have melted. Be careful to not burn the wax paper. It is a good idea to do the ironing on a piece of newspaper to protect the surface under–better safe than sorry!                                                                                       Next, trace and cut out hearts of various sizes. String each heart with ribbon or thread. Hang and enjoy the love!
