Children making a sweet difference “one cupcake at a time” is 14 year old Blake’s motto and we applaud her for her hard work,inspiration, and willingness to give to others. We would like you to meet Blake:

“I am a chemo survivor but I am well now. I heard about another 8th grader in our town w/leukemia and I wanted to help him so I started my own charity called Cupcakes for Cancer. My plan was simple-make tons of homemade cupcakes and sell them after school and local events for $1. With my best friends help, Cupcakes for Cancer raised $5000 in 6 weeks for Kevin’s family! Then my parents helped me adopt a Make A Wish child-I committed to another $5000-BUT we raised $16,000 in 2008! That was enough for wishes for 3 sick kids.

Now in 2009, we have partnered with Cure Search to raise $$$ for children’s cancer research! We are hoping to inspire other kids to join our Cupcake Crew by hosting cupcake bake sales in their towns or states-we call these kids “Cupcake Angels”!

Upon request we send out a cake box starter kit with a really cute Cupcakes for Cancer apron and coupons for powder sugar and instructions how to host and registration for your event and where to send funds collected. (we are a non-profit charity). We even have an ez-up pop up tent at our events that is pink and brown striped and it looks like a minature cupcake shoppe!

You’ve said it before and you’ve heard it from your friends– “I don’t have anything to wear” although your closets seem to be busting at the seams. What to do? How about a Trading Closets party? Invite your friends over and have them bring some clothes they don’t wear anymore and would like to trade for “new” clothes from one of your other friends castoffs from their closet. It’s like shopping without spending money–have fun!

 We had SO much fun today at an assembly. There were African drums, dancers, and the middle school stage was rockin. The embarrassing part (okay–it was a lot of fun too!) was when the dancers pulled me up on stage and gave me a drum to play. I’m not sure if they knew that I could play or what…but I was beating on the drum and the dancers were all jammin. Have you ever been the “volunteer” at any of your school assemblies? Jessica

Flowers in your hair…what a perfect way to welcome spring! Here’s how to do it:

1.Supplies: a piece of wire, fabric and/or paper flowers, raffia ribbon

2.Use a piece of wire to create a base–your “crown”

3.Wind the stems around the ring.
